You need a job? Now more than ever you have got to be in the know as to what it takes to get a job and keep it!
Every company or employer looks for something a little different. Regardless of the experience or skills expected they look for a little extra in your personal quality, that something that sets you apart from the rest.
The need to do more with less has companies digging deep to find those jewels, those folks with a work ethic that is strong and vivacious.
Today the buzz word on the hiring front is soft skills, and what you ask are soft skills. Let’s explore!
Soft skills refers to a list of personal attitudes, habits, qualities and social graces that make a person a great employee and one who is easily compatible with others. Employers realize the value of such soft skills more now as research shows these skills vital to job performance. It’s no longer about what you know and can do; it’s now about that plus who you are! The big effaces on your who!
A new premium is placed on soft skills or more formally known as people skills. It is also vital to be successful at building relationships as today’s economy is fast becoming a more service based economy.
Again we are expected to do more with less. The employee’s best suited for this are those who are agile, adaptable and creative problem solvers with a healthy outlook look and ability to stay positive.
Soft Skills;
Positive Attitude – Genuinely optimistic and upbeat someone with positive energy and good will.
Sound Work Ethic – Dedication and motivated to getting the job done with strong follow through skills to get the job done and do so in a conscientious manner.
Communication Skills – The ability to articulate well verbally and be a good listener.
Time Management Skills – Reliable, on time, prioritize and manage multi-tasking projects at one time using time wisely.
Problem Solving Skills – The ability to address problems with creative problem solving skills when issues do arise. One who takes ownership of issues or knows when to leave those to others more appropriate.
Team Player – Strong diverse people skills affording the ability to work well with others as a team and in groups. The ability to be a cooperative follower and both assume the role as leader when appropriate.
Let's face it the work place is changing and there is no going back, we must adapt. It is the fittest who survive, you decide.
The qualities now expected in a good employee are those that make for a great human being.
There is much to be said about being all you can be in both the work place and your life in general.
This is really a win win for every one.
Much Love and Success, Katie
